Spring activities for children

A list of activities your children can take part in during the spring

Spring is almost here and it's that time of the year where the weather starts to get warmer and being outside becomes more appealing to a lot of us. We've listed some activity ideas which can be extremely important for children's communication and creativity skills.

Getting children involved with gardening is a fantastic way to educate them on how nature works. Gardening tasks like weeding, watering plants and vegetables are a chance for children to use vital motor skills.

Gardening allows children to become more independent and confident after seeing the hard work they have put in especially when they are able to enjoy the food they have grown.

Planting vegetables allows children to learn about health and nutrition and if they are growing these vegetables themselves, they may be more likely to try new ones. Getting children together gets them communicating and working as a team.

Easter egg hunts

Every child (and most of us adults) love easter, it's an excuse to eat lots of chocolate but also not forgetting Easter is the celebration of Jesus. Setting up an easter egg hunt for the children will keep them occupied for at least a couple of hours.

Paper Mache Easter Eggs

Use a blown-up balloon and cover the balloon in paper mache. Get some newspaper and watered down PVA glue, then dip the strips of newspaper in the glue or paint it over the newspaper onto the balloon to build up your easter egg. Let it dry and then decorate your egg.

There are lot's of youtube tutorials if you get stuck!

Make your own ball pit.

We came across Daniel’s Lockdown Play page on Facebook and he has come up with lots of ways to entertain his children during lockdown. We loved his DIY bouncy ball pit the most…..to make your OWN mini bouncy ball pit, you’ll need to blow up some balloons and place them inside a vacuum back and then vacuum all the air out!

Make your own fairy garden

Make use of an old broken pot or some brick brack in the garden and create a fairy garden. Let your children’s imagination run wild!

Create a mud kitchen

Getting the children outside is so important especially when the weather starts to get warmer.

We all remember making mud potions and mud pies when we were younger, it is something that kids love to do. If you're looking to buy a mud kitchen we do have them available on our website if you are looking for something a bit more permanent, click here to shop now.

Identify new flowers

Spring is when plants start to flower so why not take the children out on a walk to identify all the new flowers. This is a fun activity for children which allows them to learn at the same time. Having a little notebook to write these flowers down would go down a treat with your children.
